Buckingham 72-Hour Release Sources
The dated county and facility sweep found no official Buckingham County 72-hour release view. It also found no 48-hour feed and no public released archive. The PRJ Offender Lookup serves a different purpose. PRJ says that tool locates a person incarcerated at and under its custody, so it answers who is currently shown rather than who left across three days.
A three-day review must be built from event records. Use the roster only as a current checkpoint. Then examine Virginia Jail VINE for a specific release or transfer event, the relevant Buckingham court for the legal disposition, and PRJ Records for the actual release entry. This is especially useful when the target period crosses days on which the reader did not check the roster.

Check Buckingham Three-Day Releases
Set the date range before searching. A 72-hour period is a moving three-day interval, not always three calendar dates. Since PRJ provides no public filter, the official record's date and time must decide whether an event falls inside the interval.
- Check the current PRJ roster for the person. A match supports current jail custody; no match is inconclusive.
- Search VINELink in Virginia and compare the facility and identifiers. Record whether the event says release or transfer.
- Search the correct Buckingham court level. Read the disposition, sentence, bond, appeal, or transfer indicators in context.
- Ask PRJ Records for the cumulative booking and release entry covering the three-day period, or for one person's actual release record.
- Place each confirmed event inside or outside the 72-hour window by its actual release time, not by roster disappearance.

Not every internal field must be disclosed. Ask for records that already exist rather than asking PRJ to create a new three-day report. A narrow person-and-date request is easier to identify than a broad demand for all jail data.
Buckingham Weekend Release Review
A three-day interval can bridge a weekend, a court day, and the next business day. That makes it useful for catching an event missed by a 24-hour check. Yet Virginia research did not identify a universal rule moving adult local-jail release to Friday when a release date falls on a weekend or holiday. Do not assume such a shift.
PRJ's current local rule is narrower. Its release-hours announcement states that offenders are not released between 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. A late authorization may therefore precede physical departure. The policy does not promise release at 7:00 a.m. and does not publish a holiday exception.

A request for every release over three days should name the date range and the existing cumulative booking and release series. Virginia FOIA generally requires a response within five working days through production, a lawful withholding, a no-record response, or a permitted extension. Actual search, review, and copy costs may apply. No flat PRJ release-record charge was published, so ask for an estimate.
VADOC's statewide locator is not a substitute for this county-jail record. Use it for a person serving a state sentence or shown on state supervision. A fully discharged person may not remain in the locator. In that case, request the VADOC inactive record and actual release paperwork.
Buckingham Roster Gaps and Retention
PRJ has not stated how fast its public lookup updates or how long any result stays visible after release. The online window could be much shorter than the agency's formal retention period. Never build a three-day list by subtracting names from old screenshots. A disappearance can follow transfer, correction, spelling changes, data lag, or release.
The Library of Virginia GS-08 schedule provides the stronger archival route. It schedules the cumulative booking and release series for 20 years after separation. The more detailed incarceration and release file is scheduled for three years after separation. That difference supports a two-step method: seek detailed records soon, then rely on the cumulative entry when the live roster and shorter file no longer help.

Geography can mislead a release search. Buckingham County arrestees generally go to regional PRJ in Farmville. Buckingham Correctional Center and Dillwyn Correctional Center sit inside the county but are VADOC state prisons. A person leaving either prison follows state discharge or parole procedures, not the PRJ release record.

A PRJ transfer to VADOC or another jurisdiction belongs in the departure record, but not in a list of people returned to the community. Read the recorded disposition before using the word released.
Buckingham Release Events Across Records
Virginia Jail VINE and the Buckingham court file supply different pieces of a three-day review. In VINELink, select Virginia, find the specific person, compare the facility and identifiers, and read the custody event. A release event can corroborate local-jail departure. A transfer event means the person left PRJ but remained in custody. A no-result response can follow spelling, timing, transfer, or a completed release, so it cannot close the search.
The court file explains the case outcome. Virginia's Case Status and Information portal can route a search to Buckingham court records. General District Court handles misdemeanors, traffic matters, arraignments, and felony preliminary hearings. Circuit Court handles felony trials and sentencing, district appeals, and sealing or expungement petitions. A felony certification from General District Court is not the final disposition. Follow the case to the correct level.
Record the disposition date, outcome, sentence, suspended time, and transfer or appeal indicators. Then compare them with the PRJ release entry. A dismissal, bond order, or sentence ending inside the three-day interval can explain legal authority, but the court summary still does not establish the exact physical-release time or rule out another hold.
For older or incomplete online cases, request the signed disposition or sentencing order from the clerk. Pair that order with PRJ's cumulative booking and release entry. Together, they give a more durable three-day record than a reconstructed roster comparison.
