A suspected immigration detainer belongs in the description only when the actual record supports it. Research found no verified ICE contract or Buckingham-specific PRJ detainer policy. Likewise, PRJ houses some federal offenders, but that does not make the regional jail a federal prison. The committing authority and destination settle which system should be checked next.

Question: Does a court release order prove the person walked out? No. It shows legal authority, but PRJ still processes the departure and checks for other holds. Pair the signed order with the jail release or transfer entry.

PRJ is at 801 Industrial Park Road, Farmville, VA 23901, with mail directed to P.O. Drawer 388, Farmville, VA 23901. The official PRJ contact page also identifies the FOIA route. Ask which written delivery channel the office prefers before sending sensitive identifiers.
- Identify the adult by full name, aliases, date of birth or booking number, the Buckingham case, and a narrow date range.
- Ask for the existing booking record, cumulative booking-and-release entry, and release or transfer document. Name the actual date, time, type, authorizing body, and receiving destination fields.
- Request electronic copies and any nonexempt portion after redaction. An agency need not create a new report or answer a broad question.
- Ask for an estimate before costs exceed a chosen cap. No current PRJ fee schedule was found, so a fixed local price should not be assumed.

Under Virginia Code § 2.2-3704, a qualifying requester should describe the desired public record with reasonable care, while the custodian may cite exemptions, redact protected portions, or identify another record holder.
Adult booking photographs have a distinct rule in § 2.2-3706, subject to limits such as temporary withholding when release of a felony booking photo would jeopardize an investigation. Juvenile records do not belong in the ordinary public path. Sealed and expunged material may also be removed or withheld. Virginia online court law requires removal of sealed matters from specified public access, so a missing case result cannot prove that no arrest or release occurred.
Expungement rules are date-sensitive. The version of § 19.2-392.2 in effect on the research date changes materially on December 1, 2026, and the official effective-version selector must be checked before relying on it. Virginia sealing law also has detailed offense limits, waiting periods, and exclusions. A sealing or expungement order can lawfully close a public verification route, even while the underlying agency follows its own retention schedule.

A result placing the person with a probation or parole district supports that state-prison confinement has ended, but it does not prove release from PRJ or establish an exact walk-out time. A fully discharged person may no longer appear, and a local-jail-only detainee may never appear. The locator’s static page did not verify literal result labels for released status, dates, or photographs, so those labels should be read exactly as displayed rather than assumed.

Buckingham County Recent Releases
No official rolling 24-hour, 48-hour, or 72-hour release feed was found on the PRJ or Buckingham County websites as of August 8, 2026. The PRJ lookup is expressly limited to people who are incarcerated at and under PRJ custody. It is a current-roster tool, not a released-inmate archive. The absence of a release feed must not be described as an empty list, and names should not be subtracted from saved roster images to construct one.
No official publication cadence or online retention period was stated. A person may drop from the public result after release, but the source does not say whether updates are immediate, delayed, or batched. Use the roster to check current custody, VINE for a specific custody event, the court for legal disposition, and PRJ Records for the actual date, time, type, and destination. Question: Is no PRJ result proof of release? No. It can also reflect transfer, spelling, data timing, or a record correction. A release event or agency record supplies the needed confirmation.
Buckingham County Release Hours
PRJ adopted a specific timing rule effective July 21, 2026. Offenders are not released between 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m., regardless of the reason for release. A late court action can therefore precede physical departure by several hours. The rule does not promise release at 7:00 a.m., identify a public exit, set a family waiting area, or state a weekend and holiday exception. Day-of questions should go to PRJ at 434-392-1601.

Transport After Buckingham County Release
A person released from PRJ is in Farmville, not at the Buckingham County Sheriff’s Office. That distance affects pickup plans. Farmville Area Bus publishes two in-town routes and says fixed-route service runs seven days a week. A regional transit plan also documents a Buckingham and Cumberland line, yet the sources reviewed do not promise a bus stop at PRJ’s Industrial Park Road address.
Check the current Farmville Area Bus maps and schedules or call 434-392-7433 before relying on transit for a pickup. Confirm the physical release first, then ask PRJ for any current instructions about the exit or waiting location. A route near Farmville is not the same as door-to-door service at the jail, and release-hours limits can change when a ride is needed.
Note: Do not send a driver until PRJ confirms departure timing and the current pickup point.
Buckingham County Release Paperwork
State-prison release creates a more formal packet than a public locator result. VADOC says a person who completes a sentence is discharged or leaves on parole and receives a notification-of-release letter. The person signs the applicable Order of Release, Conditions of Probation, or Conditions of Parole, and a staff witness signs and dates the document. These papers give the released person a concrete record when a public search is unclear.

The VADOC District 24 resource directory identifies the Planning District 14 Reentry Council, which meets quarterly on the second Tuesday in March, June, September, and December. Its “Advanced release” notice is an anticipated date, typically sent about 30 days ahead, while its “Release date” event means the inmate is no longer in VADOC custody. Buckingham County Release Status
Released and still in custody require different evidence. A current PRJ result supports present regional-jail custody. A later missing result is only a lead. The PRJ release entry or VINE release event documents the departure, while a transfer event sends the search to the receiving agency. A VADOC prison location means state confinement. A VADOC community-supervision placement supports the end of state-prison confinement, but the signed release record remains stronger.
